When insulin production is inadequate and fails to meet the body’s demand or when the body cells become resistant to insulin, glucose is left behind in blood, it accumulates and the levels rise, leading to diabetes. The previous is the case of Type1 diabetes and the second is the case of Type2 diabetes. Sedentary urban life style with less physical activity and processed and flavored food items at easy reach encourages diabetes. Heredity, stress, over-weight, over-eating, over- consumption of glucocorticoids, nutritional deficiencies, some other disease affecting pancreas and interfering with insulin secretion are other factors leading to diabetes. Diabetes or diabetes mellitus is a disorder that is characterized by elevation of glucose levels in blood. The carbohydrates that we consume get converted in to glucose, and hormone insulin secreted by pancreas breaks down the glucose, makes it enter body cells and release energy for day to day activities. Faulty metabolism occurs when glucose imbalance occurs in blood. The glucose imbalance occurs either when inadequate insulin is produced by pancreas, or when the body cells become inert or non-responsive to insulin. This causes glucose to build up in blood, leading to diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is caused due to inadequate insulin production, Type 2 diabetes is caused due to cell resistance to insulin. Type 2 is the most common form. Gestational diabetes attacks women during pregnancy. Read the rest of this entry →

Diabetes mellitus or diabetes is a disorder that occurs when the blood gets saturated with glucose or sugar. Our body converts the carbohydrates from the food eaten in to glucose. The pancreas secretes hormone insulin corresponding to the amount of glucose in blood. Insulin enters the blood stream along with digestive enzymes and breaks down glucose metabolically, allowing it to be absorbed in to body cells. The entire process supplies the body with the necessary amount of energy. When insulin production cannot meet the body’s requirement for insulin, Type 1 diabetes occurs. When the cells of the body become resistant to insulin, Type 2 diabetes occurs. Other forms of diabetes include gestational diabetes, congenital diabetes, steroid diabetes, monogenic diabetes and cystic fibrosis related diabetes. Read the rest of this entry →

Diabetes Mellitus or diabetes is a medical condition leading to a hike or rise of glucose or sugar levels in blood. It belongs to the group of metabolic disorders our body may suffer from. The food we consume supplies our body with glucose, and a hormone called insulin breaks down the glucose and allows uptake of glucose in to the body cells, thereby supplying the body with energy. Diabetes is a common health hazard affecting a huge bulk of the world population. It is a disease characterized by increased glucose levels in blood. The carbohydrates we consume provide our body with glucose. The hormone insulin is secreted by the beta-cells of our pancreas in response to the amount of glucose in blood. Insulin burns down glucose, makes it enter the body cells. This is a metabolic process that supplies the body with energy. Read the rest of this entry →
