This days, just like almost every part of the world, Facebook has become the number one social sites in Indonesia. Practically everyone has a Facebook account. I surprised when i found out that even 10 years kids have Facebook account. The numbers of people who have Facebook account, has attracted many vendors and company.
Many vendors, companies, shops, entertainers, entertainment, service agent promote their business by facebook. Try to type “shop” in the box search , hundreds shop will be appear. Networking is the biggest power of facebook. Many people meet old friends, business friends, family and keep in touch with them by facebook.
Right now i heard many companies use facebook account to see how the employer real characters. they will know by see their employer status or how they interaction with their friends, because it will show on their profile.
Some people think facebook is very risky for their personal information, because its easy for every member to share information. Such as photos, friends, personal contact info, comments, interest and many else. Many community formed to push facebook upgrade their security.
Apart from those above, facebook provide great ways to keep in touch with people. Everyday people check their facebook account to check their friends news. But not only benefit which offer by their facilities, Many crimes appeared too.
Examples : in England one house got robbed , after the house owner wrote status that they wouldn’t be at home for couple hours for attending concert, a thief who happen to be his Facebook friend read that and use that opportunity to bugler him.
In Indonesia, a teenager girl got raped after arranged meeting with stranger she knew from facebook. Another case in Indonesia, a guy who ordered laptop from shop in facebook, have to lost his money after he ordered and paid the laptop for 10 millions rupiah the laptop never delivered to him.
But facebook can give good benefit too, such as a man who was separated from his real parents met again after years. and the attempted murder of one president failed after the perpetrators wrote status on his facebook which explain his plan.
Many good things and bad things we can get from facebook, depend how we use that. But cant be deny facebook is one of social networking which really important these day.
